It's been a mighty long time, I know. Start of working life, big trips and a some things to do for school have unfortunately made me set the website aside for a few months. I'm not proud of it and I'm going to make it up to you. Let me start with this.
If you've read me before, you probably know that I'm prone to going on impromptu trips for stupid reasons. Like this time when my great friend Fred texted me to know if I wanted to drive 700 kilometers to Munich for the first-ever Luftgekühlt event in continental Europe. The biggest classic Porsche celebration in one of my favourite cities. Imagine my response.
If you've read so far, you'll know I said yes. We left on Saturday night and reached Bavaria in the middle of the night. Quick sleep break (haven't had that much of it lately) and we were on our way to a place I didn't know : the Wersviertel Mitte. And behind that lovely name you'll find amazing locations that an automotive snapper like me would kill to find on a daily basis. And spread in there A LOT of stupidly rare and beautiful air-cooled Porsche's from all eras. That's the dream.
The reason for this awesome setup is because one of the founders of this now world-famous event, Jeff Zwart, is not only a Porsche enthusiast and a racing driver but also a director and photographer. In his own words, they set 23 photo-ops in the area, and filled the void with various other Porsche's. And they're not museum pieces by the way. Every car there has been driven by their owner. We've even seen some of them on the Autobahn on the way home.
I won't (cause I couldn't) make the whole list of what I've seen on that magical Sunday, so I'll just leave you with a selection of pictures that I took to show you how crazy the setups were, and the insane amount of Neun-Elf's, 356's and other stunning Porsche's we've seen. I wouldn't have imagined ever saying that, but in the end of the day, we felt like 2.7 RS's were usual. See how it raised our standards.
All in all I've had an amazing day at this great place, and I just hope this event will eventually come back to Europe soon. Wherever it is, we'll drive there. Thanks to my friend Fred and to everyone who set this up. Congratulations to all of the owners, and keep being uber-cool with your cars. And if you want to see race cars, scroll down a tiny bit more. Thanks for reading me, I'll write more often !
